The MP-ED is a professional MPEG-2 multi-format encoder and decoder. The integrated technology permits very good quality also at low bit rates. An internal multiplexer allows to compose a multi-channel bouquet through a cascaded configuration, without the use of an external multiplexer. An integrated TFT-LCD monitor has double function of complete device settings (OSD) and signal test analyzing   immediately the video compression results.
Operating settings could be made very friendly by the front panel buttons or RS-232 port.
The decoder has two operational modes:
·     ”Loopback” which allows the real time control of the encoder functionality, showing the video signal after compression, by the video 
     output or the LCD monitor.
·    ”ASI input” allows only ASI decoding; it is possible to set the required channel, selecting it inside the multi-channel bouquet.
The MP-ED could be used for many applications as: terrestrial digital video broadcasting (DVB-T), Satellite (DVB-S), Cable (DVB-C), digital microwave link for single or multi-channels and radiophonic stereo transmission.  MP-ED is a plug-in module which could be allocated in a 3HE rack. One cabinet could contain maximum two MPEG-2 encoders. Obviously the structure could be composed by the encoder quantity needed, adding the relative numbers of cabinets.
With an additional optional module, MP-ED could transmit or receive digital data with G-703 E1 standard. A Video format converter and EPG inserter module is available for this encoder, on request.
